West Virginia is the only state completely within the Appalachian Mountain Range, hence it's moniker, "The Mountain State." The rugged peaks, hardwood forests and numerous rivers and creeks result in picturesque beauty and an outdoor playground for the bed and breakfast adventurer. There are whitewater rafting trips with a range of excitement levels, rock climbing, mountain biking, horseback riding, and fishing trips, all excellent ways to commune with nature.
The bed and breakfast historian may want to visit all or some of West Virginia's 18 Civil War Discovery Trail sites. Harper's Ferry, one site along the trail changed hands 12 times during the Civil War. Just be sure to check for days and times of operation as these vary from site to site.
