Indian Summer Getaways
& Harvest Tours
It is hard to believe that summer is coming to an end and as busy as many folks have been they still haven't managed a getaway, or maybe you took one early in the season and it seems like an eon ago. In any case, traveling during the Indian summer is considered by many bed and breakfast connoisseurs to be the absolute best time to go. Indian summer evokes images of golden days, and still warm nights where across North America harvests are at their peak, and farmers markets are bursting with produce and homemade goodies.
Coupling an Indian summer getaway in a nearby area, what some are calling a staycation, has many benefits. There are fewer people on the roads and many bed and breakfasts are less crowded so you are more likely to get your choice of rooms. Staying in an area nearby has other advantages as you can combine an easy to plan getaway - with no need for extensive packing or elaborate planning- with other of your favorite pastimes.
For example, Heritage travel is a big subject these days because so many folks are interested in their families, or even their region’s heritage. Staying in a bed and breakfast is perfect for this as most innkeepers are amongst the most knowledgeable people about their area, whether it is a small regional museum (and some are even housed in a bed and breakfast with the owners and curators), historic building or the famous Maiden Rock of so many legends.
Other Indian summer bed and breakfast travelers will be sure to enjoy roadside stands brimming with goodies--why not take back some homemade jam?-- frequent antiques and tag sales attract the collectors amongst us, while early fall mornings are often when the fish are biting. Be sure to take a look in our specials area for the many bed and breakfasts offering special rates, values and packages during this time of year.
