Another wonderful historic site for Charles Town bed and breakfast guests to visit is the Charles Town Courthouse, which was the site of the infamous John Brown Trial, in reaction to the raiding of the arsenal in nearby Harpers Ferry, which many say spurred the Civil War. The Jefferson County Museum is a great place for bed and breakfast visitors to explore more of this rich history. Harpers Ferry is definitely worth the ten minute drive for Charles Town bed and breakfast guests: the downtown area is a National Historic District and includes John Browns Fort, the site of the actual raid. There are also Civil War battlefields within an easy drive of a Charles Town bed and breakfast: the most famous for bed and breakfast visitors is Antietam, which was the site of the bloodiest day in the Civil War, with 23,000 dead, injured or missing.
