Dear Innkeeping Friends,

Pamela On Mattress

Pamela on the Bed and Breakfast Collection Mattress

March is roaring by, I have seen beautiful blossoms already at conferences and meetings from the Kentucky Bed and Breakfast Association where we showcased the B&B Collection Mattress. Innkeeper Todd Allen was the lucky winner in a raffle we held to benefit the association.

One idea that came up in Kentucky was innkeepers getting together in regional associations and ordering the Bed and Breakfast Collection™ Mattress as a group to be shipped into one location, thus those who only need 1 or 2 mattresses can qualify for the 50% off discount and shipping fees will be waived (if sent to one location).

Pamela at Palacek

Pamela in the Palecek Design Studio

Earlier this week I had a wonderful experience. I got to design two chairs just for the Bed and Breakfast Collection at the design studio of Palecek in Richmond, California.  Keep your eyes out on our YouTube channel for our video of my experience.  Chairs will be completed and a custom part of their Inspirations program in just a few days. Look for a picture of me with these new chairs in next month's Inn the Know.

Marie and I have had the opportunity to attend and present at numerous conferences over the past few months. We've enjoyed meeting all of the Innkeepers and look forward to the conferences to come.

 Sincerely,

Pamela and Marie Lanier

Two Broad Principles to

Make Your Website Better

Computer

by Dave Hyndman

Founder & President, Site Valet

With so much focus and chatter about social media-Facebook-this and Twitter-that-it's easy to lose sight of the continued importance of your website. But the fact is, most of us participate on these 3rd party sites with the goal of driving visitors to our website. It's from here that we hope to convert a visitor to a booking guest. Now, there's a never-ending list of things you should do with your website out there:
best practices, content suggestions, little bits of technology. Most of these are very specific how-to's and top-ten list types of advice.
But here are two broad pieces of advice we give to all the B&Bs we deal with. Think of them as guidelines or principles and keep them in mind when making decisions about your website.

Meet

Pete & Re-Pete

from Martha's Vineyard B&B

Otherwise known as the "social committee", they eagerly greet guests and let them know that they are welcome at Martha's Vineyard.  Guests enjoy watching them parade by each morning during breakfast as they are walked from their "Duck Inn" to the pond, and then back to the "Inn" at night for safe keeping.  Pete and Re-pete are Indian Runners, a garden duck variety popular in the late 1800's which is when the home was built circa 1852.

Innkeeper's Story Presents...

Steve& Connie Segner

El Portal Sedona Inn

One-of-a-kind experience can sometimes happen by accident. It can also be dreamed. This is the case with El Portal. The dream started in 1980 when native Californians Steve and Connie Segner first visited Sedona. Enchanted by the area, more visits followed and soon they decided to build a home at the foot of a beautiful Red Rock mountain. Read more
