SEO for Innkeepers, Part 10: Treat SEO as your #1 Marketing Initiative
|
Co-Authored by Thomas Brown, SEO Expert and Psychologist
About
This Series: SEO stands for "search engine optimization." Google is the world's best-known search engine, but there are others, including Bing and Yahoo for example. SEO is the art of designing the content of a web page for
optimal find-ability by a search engine - designing it in a way that
makes it easy for a user to find, using a search engine. For
innkeepers, SEO means designing an inn's site in a way that makes it
easy for a potential guest to find it, using a search engine like
Google, Yahoo, Bing, Ask, or any other.
The
following article outlines the 10th installment of "10 ways to
design websites for maximum search engine optimization in the long term."
Treat SEO as your #1 Marketing Initiative
By giving SEO & SMN (Social Media Networking) efforts as much, or
more, time than other traditional marketing campaigns, such as taking
out a printed ad or paying for expensive radio time, SEO & SMN
marketing will give you 3x the benefit, at 1/4 the price. SEO & SMN
cost little up front yet the payoff is high and the continued return on
investment immeasurable as the internet grows and more people align
themselves with your website.
Remember, SEO does not end at 5:00 p.m. and often times the evenings is
when you will catch people online to request that they link to your
website, mention you in a blog, vote for your Inn on LanierBB.com,
share a special in their Facebook account and the list goes on.
SEO is not a secret, it's much simpler than you may have initially
thought and you can tackle it slowly but surely. Don't forget, content
is King and relationships is crucial to your success.

Featured B&B Destinations for Visitors: Powerful Destination Marketing |
According to PhoCusWright, "destination web sites play no small role in the travel planning and shopping process...travelers are clearly looking for local insight into activities, events and attractions to enhance their experience in addition to lodging options." Travelers are looking to destination web sites for the same personalized expertise - not just cookie-cutter hotel rooms. That's where we come in, our twice-monthly B&B Travel Newsletter goes out to thousands of opt-in subscribers, recommending cities, things to do, where to eat and so much more. Our most recent issues featured these U.S. and International B&B destinations:

Since 1994, Unique Angles Photography has been the realization of a
dream. I have always enjoyed capturing the beauty and detail of
architecture and landscape, and that passion led me to more commercial
photography.
It is a pleasure to work with a variety of clientele, ranging from
large
corporations to small businesses. My goal is to use my camera as a tool
to capture beauty. I strive to photograph those unique angles which
display the object in the most extraordinary way.
Pictures create lasting images in our minds, and I appreciate each
opportunity I have to do exactly that.
Offer expires on December 31, 2009.

Specials Driving Summer Travel
Keeping a traveler's budget in mind while creating alluring, unique
specials is going to make you stand apart from the crowd. According to
Google's Managing Director of Travel, searches for travel specials have
increased by over 30% since last year, clearly demonstrating that
people are traveling, but they want as much value as possible.
Vic Mangini, Innkeeper at Greenfield Inn, Greenfield, NH, sent this
email to our team back in the 80's, but its stayed with me and I want
to share with you what Vic considered his key to success and is still
so relevant today:
"I can't emphasize enough, Pamela, the unlimited size of the
couples-who-need-a-brief-break market. Can you think of any couple that
does NOT need a brief break with each other? A B&B is the inspired
answer because 1. they can't go far, 2. they can't stay long, 3. they
don't want to spend resort-sized money. Bed with Breakfast is the
answer to their problem, period. The advertising has to talk directly
to them. Everyone is welcome to check out how I talk to them at
www.greenfieldinn.com. Literally millions of couples can be easily
persuaded to take a brief, nearby, low-cost romantic break! It's such a
kick, watching happy couples every morning. We're up to 3000 couples
per year-not bad for a B&B in a tiny isolated town that's a
destination for absolutely nothing. except relationship repair."
Thank you Pamela and God bless you and all your effective work on our behalf."

Happy summer, Pamela
