Dear Innkeeping Friends,
May is a great month to create specials to post on our website and offer in all of your materials. Not only does Mother's Day take place in May, but for Inns located near colleges and universities, May is graduation season and a great opportunity to increase your occupancy. I'd
like to share with you a few specials that really caught my eye for this time of year and may inspire you to create new specials for your B&B: 10,000 Tulip Blooms Extravaganza & Spring Fling Stay and Horse Ride. Put your thinking caps on and come up with some that suit your B&B and destination. I, like many of you, spring clean during this month. In our last edition, we reminded you to "spring clean" your Lanier account by posting new pictures and videos, updating pricing, and contact information. I also wanted to remind you to take some time to refresh your B&B. Maybe change the décor, add fresh flowers, new toiletries, etc. If it's time for you to change your mattresses, don't forget that Lanier members receive hospitality-grade ultra-luxurious mattresses at 50% off. Here's a couple articles on the subject to give you some ideas: We're excited to bring you another edition of our Bed and Breakfast Chronicle! This year it's bigger and better than ever, and will hit your doorstep in May. I hope you have a merry May. Happy Mother's Day to all Innkeeping mothers that have not only welcomed strangers into your home for all these years, but also succeeded in raising a family. All that you do is truly inspirational.
Sincerely, Pamela Lanier |

Effective Bed and Breakfast Photograph
| |

By Robin Victor Goetz
Master Photographer, RVGP, Inc.
Using a professional photographer to photograph your inn isn't a question of "Should I?" but rather "When?" and "Who do I use?"
It is easy to think of professional photography as an expense, which at first it is. However, professional photography is an investment -immediately upon use of the images, it will start paying off. Once the images begin appearing on your Web site, commercials, print ads or brochures, the public will see your images and the word will spread! Unless major changes occur to the inn or menu, your photography should remain fresh for four to five years. Also (my favorite), the entire shoot is tax deductible as an advertising expense. Check with your CPA for details. The idea is simple: promote your inn at its absolute best, showing the world what makes it special. Read more

Meet
Miss Dazy
from Schroon Lake Bed & Breakfast
Miss Dazy is a 10 year old West Highland White Terrier. When she's not patrolling the grounds and making sure that the squirrels aren't getting too close to the bird feeders, you can find Miss Dazy relaxing in the owner's quarters. When the Innkeepers, Mark & Sharon Piper, moved to the Upstate NY B&B from Seattle, Mark had to "drive Miss Dazy" across the country in his truck!
Congratulations Loving Pet Owners!
Look out for your special prize.
Good news, the contest continues... If you have a mascot that's destined for fame, send us pictures and a brief introduction to newsletter@travelguides.com. Only current Lanier BBIGI members are eligible. Is your membership current? Renew today

Innkeeper's Story Presents...
|

Gail Riley & Tom Statzell
Highland Haven Creekside Inn
It was a not such a "far-fetched" dream of mine to add a "tree house" to our inn, the Highland Haven. As a kid growing up in Indiana in "Happy Hollow," I was always climbing up in the oak trees, swinging from grape vines and being my happiest taking in nature. Now we are in the foothills of Colorado, just 20 miles west
of Denver-but a world away from the city. With 400 feet of Bear Creek, along with over a dozen mature blue spruce trees on our property, our town is aptly called Evergreen. Our inn has already established itself as a romantic retreat so the Tree House made good business sense too. Read more
