Mariposa Outdoor Recreation

After a satisfying morning meal at your Mariposa bed and breakfast, head to the hills for a hike. Fifty percent of Mariposa County is public land (Yosemite National Park, Sierra & Stanislaus National Forests, and BLM Holdings), so get out and explore! Merced River from Briceburg to Lake McClure is a popular spot with refreshing swimming holes along the North Fork. Chowchilla Mountain Road is one of the original stage routes into Yosemite Park, now offering a maze of roads connecting to various peaks to the north and south. All locations are within a short driving distance from most Mariposa bed and breakfasts.

If thrill seeking fun is what you’re after, enjoy a restful morning at your bed and breakfast before hopping into your raft to tackle the Merced River. At the height of the spring snow melt, the river is a Class IV at many points, running high and fast, but it becomes a Class III when the river drops. Whatever the season, you’ll enjoy the majestic canyon views and the comfort of your bed and breakfast after a wild day on the river exploring Mariposa Country.

For a more mellow pursuit, Mariposa County delights visitors with two golf courses, 18-holes at the Lake Don Pedro Golf Resort and 9-holes at Yosemite’s Wawona Golf Course. Bird watchers will be pleased by an all day trip back in time along White Rock Road. Watch for Bald Eagles, Golden Eagles, and Road Runners in March while enjoying the splendor of the wildflowers and the charm of the historic town of Raymond. If you continue to drive on to Eastman Lake, you might catch sight of some water birds as well. Relish the natural beauty that surrounds you as you fish from the banks of the river, the edge of the creek, and shores of the lake. Brown trout, Rainbow trout, salmon, and bass all swim in the waters during the right time of year, so bring your barbless hooks and your fly fishing supplies for a day of serene adventure along the water’s edge. You never know, your innkeeper may even be willing to cook up your fresh catch at their bed and breakfast, it never hurts to ask! One thing’s for sure, after your peaceful outing you may return to your bed and breakfast to savor a nice glass of wine with some rustic cheese as you recount your day’s activities.
