The other village, Madaket, is a rambling fishing village at the western end of the island. The views are extraordinary, and the casual atmosphere is perfect after a day at the beach. To the north and east are creeks, ponds and marshes, and to the west and south, the Atlantic Ocean. The beaches face west, guaranteeing a fabulous sunset at the end of every sunny day. The fishing is excellent and Smith's Point is a treat for 4-wheelers.
During the summer months, a small market provides residents with the basics, and the Westender Restaurant is perfect for a come-as-you-are family dining experience. Drinks are served on the first floor and there is another more formal dining room upstairs with sunset views. |
