Flathead Valley and Flathead Lake

Located a few miles from Whitefish, the Flathead Valley lies in the heart of the Rocky Mountains wild lands between the Salish Mountains to the west, and the Whitefish, Swan and Mission Ranges, rising to the Continental Divide, to the east. The area is very tourist friendly, providing a host of things to do and places to stay. There are eight championship golf courses open from April though October, and you will also find 200 miles of groomed snowmobile trails, world class hunting, fishing, indoor and outdoor tennis, swimming and health facilities.

Aside from Whitefish, several other charming and diverse villages, communities and towns can be found in Flathead Valley. Kalispell, the largest city, is the major retail center in Northwest Montana. Columbia Falls is the western gateway to Glacier National Park, and Bigfork, Lakeside, Polson and Somers frame the east and west shores of Flathead Lake. All of these communities offer tax-free shopping, galleries, fine dining, festivals and special events.

Flathead Lake is the largest freshwater lake west of the Mississippi. With over 124 miles of sweeping shoreline, this 28-mile long, 177,760-acre natural wonder is bounded by the breath-taking Swan and Mission Mountain ranges. The drive along Flathead Lake's West Shore offers a picture perfect view of snow-capped peaks reflected in the sparkling blue waters of the lake. Recreational opportunities abound including mountain trails for skiing and snowmobiling in the winter, and hiking, boating, rafting, sailing and fishing adventures in the summer.
