Austin, Texas

Austin is a unique feature in the Texas landscape. It offers a top ranked university, five-star restaurants and down-home BBQ, and some of the most innovative music in the country. Willie Nelson and Lance Armstrong call it home, as does the Governor of Texas. It's hip and stylish, innovative and laid-back, but above all, it’s a city where people love to have a good time.On any given night, one can find musical venues offering country, blues, rock and roll, hip-hop, Tejano, Latin jazz and more. Downtown in the Warehouse District and along Sixth Street is where most of these venues are found. Check out Maggie Mae’s, Broken Spoke, Tejano Ranch, Antone’s and the Continental Club for a great variety of musical styles.

Every March, thousands of musicians and fans converge on the city for the annual South by Southwest Music and Media Conference, which showcases hundreds of musical acts from around the globe on over fifty stages in downtown Austin. New acts along with such renowned performers as Neil Young, Billy Bragg, Kris Kristofferson and Judy Collins are featured.

Since 1976, Austin City Limits has continued to be the best free show in town. The PBS television series showcases American and Texas roots music, from Etta James and Bob Wills' Texas Playboys to Jack Johnson, Alison Krauss and Union Station and Leonard Cohen, each season presents some of the best original music in every genre. Its ability to consistently present a great mix of musical styles makes it a focal point among television music programs. In September, the music leaves the studio for the Austin City Limits Music Festival in Zilker Park.
