| We became innkeepers in Massachusetts after fulltime professional careers in Miami Beach, FL, where we had lived all our lives. Bruce, educated as an attorney, chose instead his fulltime role as President/CEO of the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce (17 years). He also served as a City Commissioner for 10 of those years. Ronnie was part of the Executive staff at City Hall acting as an Assistant to the City Manager, and served in other community-oriented roles for over 18 years. Both of us were very civically involved but felt that we had given our best to an incredibly evolved community, and it was now “time for us.” After our grown kids migrated to the northeast permanently, our best friends moved to the Berkshires, and Ronnie recovered from a serious breast cancer ordeal, we decided that a lifestyle change was timely. Falling in love with Devonfield and our town of Lee, MA, was easy; determining our ability to run a B&B not as clear. However, having traveled to many wonderful inns and B&B’s and with a strong set of “people skills”, good business acumen, as well as strong tourism industry orientations from our roles in Miami Beach, we decided to acquire the inn. We sold our home, gave notice to our employers and headed north! We were able to build on the prior owner’s good work, and have continued to enhance and upgrade our Devonfield home. | |||
