The Pursuit of Happiness

The framers of the US Constitution knew their linguistics when they used the word "pursuit" in place of any other in regards to happiness. It seems that this state of mind, while achievable, is not always the easiest to find. However, according to a study just released based on 72 years of research (following 268 folks through their lifetime and collecting detailed notes of the elements that make up happiness) the top three aspects that are vital for happiness just happen to be those that are an integral part of most innkeepers' lives. They are:

1.    Having a healthy outlet, a means by which to channel fears, nerves, and struggles in a creative and positive way.  Any physical hobby, from jogging to quilting, provides a soothing repetition of movements that can brighten your mood after an especially needy guest.

2.    Don't take yourself too seriously. Loosen up and let your guests see your groovy dance moves once in a while!

3.    Happiness must be shared. And who better to share it with than your guests and fellow innkeeper(s)? Now that I think about it, this is probably the explanation why the vast majority of the hundreds of innkeepers I've met over the past 25 years are some of the happiest people I've ever known.

Keep on doing it and happy summer!
