When James and Jeanette Statser first bought the property near the corner of San Elijo and Chesterfield, they had some ideas for a small hotel. Before commencing the building, they took a twenty-fifth anniversary trip to Great Britain and stayed at a different bed and breakfast nearly every night.
By the time they returned to Cardiff, they had decided that they would create a lodge based on these bed and breakfast experiences. James Statser designed and built the lodge while Jeanette decorated the rooms, each with their own unique style and design.
