My wife and I “purchased” The BEALL MANSION (or more accurately became the indentured servants to the bank) in 1996. A massive full time restoration of the property was begun and has continued now for more than a decade. (Wish you could take tax deduction for helping support the restoration of a historic property but the IRS doesn't look at it my way.)

Sandy Belote

My wife, Sandy, is an incredible woman (isn't that true of all wives?) overseeing the restoration, staff, decorating, and the day to day operations of the property.

Always up to a challenge, as a young home maker she built her own furniture, while today she makes the Lavender Scented Bath Salts provided for each guest bath and whirlpool. (Martha Stewart looks like an amateur by comparison!)

Sandy’s loves include a good morning cup of coffee, entertaining, dancing, rich, dark chocolate (and me).

She is also an avid gardener—and in the spring of 2001 successfully completed a Master Gardener course from the University of Illinois Extension Service. (Sometimes I have to pull her out of the gardens and back inside by her hair.)

James Belote

Formerly an executive of a St. Louis family business, I am in charge of special events and marketing for The BEALL MANSION. I also help out by giving tours and playing the role of butler. My loves include history, floating, hiking, bicycling and expressing myself as a freelance writer.

Sandy and I share a common passion for fine wine, gourmet food, classic architecture, art, good music, children, animals, travel, anything of beauty and quality. . . and sharing The BEALL MANSION you—our special guests.
