Innkeeper's Story

Our Story
from Brook Farm Inn

Our dream was to live in the magical Berkshires, and to follow in the footsteps of our role models, innkeepers who were our gracious hosts when came to this area as visitors. We started visiting in 1983, with a two-night weekend getaway from hectic New Jersey.
Staying at a lovely, historic B&B enhanced the charm of the Berkshires experience. It became "home away from home," where we became friends with the innkeepers and returned for many annual summer visits. Although we enjoyed our New Jersey town, we looked forward all winter to these summer getaways. At the inn, we marveled at the way it was lovingly furnished with antiques, and we felt so welcomed by the innkeepers. Breakfast was always a treat, where we lingered to chat with other guests. Two days were not nearly enough, so the visits kept getting longer....
Our innkeeper friends kept urging us to visit in the winter, and finally one year, we joined them for New Year's Eve. It was the best ever, with a party at the inn, and snowfall that provided gorgeous snowshoeing on the wooded trails nearby. We were hooked -- on the Berkshires, and on innkeeping. But we put them aside until the time was right.
Meanwhile, Linda was enjoying her career in New Jersey as a school librarian, and Phil worked as a sales rep in the candy industry. It wasn't until our sons, Dan and Eric, were grown that we decided to seek a B&B we could make our own.
In 2001 we purchased Brook Farm Inn, in Lenox, the heart of the Berkshires. We loved the property the first time we saw it -- an 1882 Victorian, near Tanglewood. The first occupant was a writer named Constance Cary Harrison, whose husband was secretary to Jefferson Davis. The inn has an interesting history and so we are dedicated to maintaining its legacy.
We feel blessed with guests who come to enjoy the same things that drew us here, and we love to share our home and all the area attractions with them. We have visitors from all over the globe, and many of them return to us year after year, the way we returned to that first B&B that we visited.
