But I love it!! After retirement in 2006 as the Chief Financial Officer of a local school district, I knew I'd eventually need something to do with myself. Over the years, my husband and I had invested in the real estate market (that might have something to do with the fact that he's had a real estate business in town for 40 years!), and bought this property. We sat on it for a while trying to come up with the best possible use for it. He wanted to turn it into a professional center; I wanted to return it to its original use - it is obvious who won, huh?!? Anyway, we gutted the entire building and in 2008 did a multi-million renovation. I knew nothing about the hospitality industry, but jumped in with both feet and lots of energy. I had so much fun doing all the decorating (a never-ending job), and Ed's support has made this a venture that we both absolutely love. Meeting people from all over the world, coupled with "hanging out" with those from our community make it so worthwhile. We initially leased out our restaurant space, but since have taken over that part of the business as well which gives us so many more opportunities to cater to our guests. So, we pretty much have everything we had hoped for -- an elegant, upscale yet casual and comfortable inn, a very quaint tavern, and a restaurant that offers great food!
