Gerry Shields and Roland Labadan became Herren House’s innkeepers after successfully operating two Virginia hostelries, Longwood Inn in Farmville and Magnolia House in Lexington. Gerry is a lifelong educator whose recent work has been in international education as headmaster of institutions in Europe, the Middle East, and Latin America. A graduate of Washington & Lee, Tulane, and Harvard universities, he began his career at the nearby Asheville School and so is, in a sense, returning home.

Roland, a native of The Philippines, was educated in hospitality management at the Institute of Hospitality Management on the Isle of Man (UK), interning at a 4-star hotel in Gatwick, UK. He has worked in Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Turkey, and the United States as an innkeeper and administrative assistant.

The Innkeepers take great pleasure in meeting their guests and insuring that their stay at Herren House is of exceptional quality. Their aim is to provide comfortable accommodation and excellent food in elegant surroundings. With a background of living in many nations and cultures, they particularly welcome guests with an international background or interests.
