The innkeepers of the Brewster House, Scott and Ruth Thomas, purchased Brewster House in 2006. They had been interested in pursuing this career/lifestyle change for the several years, as they had traveled extensively along the Maine coastal areas several times each year.

Ruth is from San Jose, California, and Scott is from East Lansing, Michigan. They have lived in California, Mississippi, North Carolina and Virginia, before settling in Freeport, Maine.

Scott worked for nearly 20 years as an attorney, first in private practice in California, and the final five years as General Counsel for a nonprofit organization based in Mississippi. Over the ensuing 10 years, Scott has been involved in computers, internet technology, networking, etc., and now, innkeeping. During less busy times of year, Scott provides consulting services on software for managing guest reservations for innkeepers. He also is a frequent speaker at Inn Your Dreams innkeeping seminars, speaking on guest management software for innkeepers.

Ruth has a Bachelors degree in Business Administration, along with over 11 years experience in managing the operations of a law office, as well as other business experience. Ruth is also well known as a marvelous and creative cook, who enjoys serving new recipes to friends and family. She scours cookbooks and the internet for recipes that suit her purpose, then adjusts them to her liking and serves them to the delight of all who have the pleasure of sampling them.

As time permits, both Scott and Ruth enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking, bicycling, golf, sailing and canoeing. Both of them also enjoy shopping in Freeport.
