Innkeepers Lynn Upthagrove and Victor Niebylski were living on boats in the San Francisco bay area when they first met, Victor on his sailboat and Lynn on her houseboat, and they were both looking for a change. Victor's background centered on the restaurant business, a family tradition from his roots in Argentina. Lynn had computer geek tendencies (and still does!) with a focus on travel and tourism. They searched far and wide for the perfect Inn in an ideal location, and were giving serious consideration to a B&B in the Northeast corner of the USA until they visited the area in the middle of winter, whereupon they quickly decided that they wanted to stay in sunny California. Then they found the Hotel Charlotte, in the gold rush era town of Groveland near Yosemite National Park, with its own in-house restaurant for Victor to work his culinary magic, and 10 individually decorated rooms for Lynn to promote to travelers around the world. The clincher was the connection between Lynn's name of Upthagrove, and the town's name of Groveland, where all the locals say they live "up the hill" in Groveland, it was meant to be, the perfect match of Inn and Innkeepers.

Lynn & Victor work hard, very hard. Running an Inn and Restaurant is a full time job, and then some. A B&B is not a venture to be taken lightly, it is not a "retirement" activity, not if the owners want to be successful. And they are successful, Lynn & Victor, their hard work of the past 6 1/2 years has paid off with the Hotel & Cafe Charlotte being the venue most sought by locals and tourists alike in the Groveland area. Highly ranked by independent traveler reviews, Hotel Charlotte is where locals lodge their extra family, and Cafe Charlotte is where folks from the neighborhood bring friends and family for special occasions such as birthdays and anniversaries. Many organizations hold their regular meetings at the hotel and cafe, as well as their holiday parties. Lynn & Victor are well immersed into the community, they are the backbone of the local Chamber of Commerce and support every charitable event that happens for miles around, theirs is an establishment well worth your recognition.
