2010 is at last here to the relief of many. During the course of 2009, Marie and I had the pleasure of speaking at 10 tourism and B&B conferences. At every event, we conduct live, industry surveys and give those statistics back to the hosting association. We've compiled the figures for 2009 and you will see that some of these are very informative.
Most encouraging is that bed and breakfasts were able to raise the average daily rate by 3.18%. In 2008 the average daily rate was $157. Last year in 2009 that increased to $162.
Another interesting point is that most reservations (83.35%) are secured with a phone call. While 58% of the respondents were receiving bookings online, many of those guests then called as well to finalize and complete their booking.
The demographics of inngoer's income continue to rise. By innkeepers estimates, those with an income of 75,000-100,000+ accounted for over 71% of inngoers. A very impressive statistic.
The biggest group of inngoers (86.18%) are between the ages of 41-55. 91.97% of bookings are for couples.
Most guests stay 2 nights (75.95%); however it's interesting to note that 8.14% stay 4 or more nights. |
