Area Attractions and Activities:
On the banks of the Piscataqua River, Portsmouth, New Hampshire is but an easy one hour drive from Boston, MA, Portland, ME and Manchester, NH. Due to its central location, Portsmouth is a great base for day trips to almost all of New England:
Maine - Kittery, Portland, Freeport, Kennebunk, Boothbay, etc.
Massachusetts - Gloucester, Salem, Cape Ann, Boston, etc.
New Hampshire - Mt. Washington, White Mountains, Isle of Shoals, Lake Winnepasaukee, Shaker Village (Canter- Bury) and Concord, the state capital.
The living museum of Strawbery Banke chronicles how the city developed from its founding to present time. Scenic and historic trolley and horse carriage rides are available to all. From the river front, ocean and river cruises and whale watches depart, as do visits to the Isle of Shoals. Also, Portsmouth's cultural heritage is well served by our theater, galleries, musical groups, the Music Hall and riverfront Prescott Park with the outdoor stage for plays, musicals, concerts and dance.
Because of our unique location, all of these are at most a few blocks stroll from the inn. Pubs, taverns and great restaurants all abound-just around the corner.
