Inn on La Loma Plaza

Taos, New Mexico.

A historic Taos landmark, an intimate and luxurious setting 2 blocks from downtown Taos. Each room has its own distinctive ambiance created by a combination of handcrafted furniture, antiques and southwestern fabrics.

Bed and Breakfast Description

Taos, New Mexico bed and breakfast: Inn on La Loma Plaza

The completely walled hacienda sits on a small hill with expansive grounds, towering trees and commanding mountain views. Most of the first floor was built in 1800, when it served as the southeast corner of Plazuela de San Antonio, one of the first fortified plazas recognized by Spain in the New World. The hacienda is an outstanding example of Pueblo Revival architecture built with thick adobe walls, vigas, and latillas and is listed on the National and State Register of Historic Places.

All rooms have private entrances, wood burning fireplaces, private bathrooms, top-of-the-line mattresses, telephones, 50 channel cable-color televisions with HBO, CD player/radios, robes, slippers and full length mirrors. Each bathroom has hand-painted talavera tile, extra large bath-towels, hair dryer, lighted makeup mirror and custom toiletries. Most rooms have private patios or decks and sitting areas in front of the fireplace. One-bedroom studios and two-bedroom suites with kitchenettes are also available.

You can see the town of Taos, as well as the peaks of the Sangre de Cristo range of the Rocky Mountains from inside the walls of this Spanish hacienda (estate). The spacious guest areas feature high ceilings, hardwood and tiled floors, hand-carved corbels, fireplaces, fountains, lots of green plants and quiet corners.

Area Attractions and Activities:

Geographically, the town of Taos combines the high desert southwest with the majestic Sangre de Cristo Mountains as a backdrop to culture, art and history. Taos is an art mecca with over 100 galleries and museums, featuring works of art by such notables as R.C. Gorman, Amado Pena, and Georgia O'Keefe.

In addition to world renowned skiing at Taos Ski Valley, you can mingle with people from an ancient, thriving culture at the Taos Pueblo, ride "The Box" in the Rio Grande on a spectacular guided raft trip, take a watercolor class, go two- stepping, play golf on a beautiful desert course, explore winding mountain roads, ride horseback across the same deserts that inspire the artists, visit the Plaza, and admire the spectacular views from the Rio Grande Gorge bridge at sunset.

Dining in Taos or Taos Ski Valley is a special treat when rest and relaxation are essential in your travel plans. Five star chefs are also artists here, where they create dishes that appeal to both eye and palate.
