The Emerson Inn By the Sea is a newly renovated, handsome white clapboard inn, which once welcomed Ralph Waldo Emerson into its peace and comfort. Also available are two seaside cottages.

Bed and Breakfast Description

Oceanviews, dining, spa tubs, balconies, conferences, retreats, and weddings. Enjoy a wonderful location looking out on the Atlantic Ocean at Pigeon Cove in picturesque Rockport.

The lovely entryway leads to a spacious grand parlor, painted in soft tones that beautifully complement the handsome, wide-plank hardwood floors.

The Grand Cafe at the Emerson Inn by the Sea - which plays host to many wedding celebrations - is dressed in striking reds and blues.

French doors lead onto a verandah set with more tables, offering magnificent waterviews. The creative and classic cuisine will delight. We are open for a hearty country breakfast or fine, casual dining in the evening. Each overnight room is individually appointed with period antiques and replicas.

Eleven rooms have spa tubs and two rooms feature a private balcony. We have two suites suitable for families and two rooms with electric fireplaces. Breakfast is included with your overnight stay.

Area Attractions and Activities:

Antique shops, art galleries, whale watching, scuba diving, beaches.

Rockport is most famous as an art colony, but vacationers also enjoy sunbathing on the rocks and beaches, taking walks through the woods or along the shore, or watching the whales from boats out of Rockport or Gloucester.

The Rockport Golf Club has a fine nine hole course about three miles from the Emerson, and there are tennis courts less than a mile from the inn. The inn is also convenient to fine dining, shopping and many recreational activities.

Numerous cultural events, concerts and festivals take place in Rockport and the Cape Ann area throughout the year.
