Bed and Breakfast Description

Built in 1869, the Vrooman Mansion had extensive additions in 1900, doubling its size. This historic home has 36 rooms on 3 floors, with over 10,000 sq. ft. of living space. Every effort has been made to retain the mansion's decor and ambience. Stained glass and leaded beveled glass windows greet you upon arrival to the grand, 2-story English-style lobby complete with inglenook.

The family crests, above the fireplace, are an elegant reminder of the ancestry of European nobility. Let your imagination carry you through the corridors of the past as you sip tea in the parlor admiring its hand-painted ceiling.

Enjoy breakfast at the home's original hand-carved dining table where dignitaries such as Adlai E. Stevenson and Eleanor Roosevelt dined w/the Vrooman family. The mansion's one acre, park-like setting will help you relax away from the cares of modern life.

Relive history as you imagine being present during debates by both Lincoln & Douglas. These historic events have been memorialized by the State w/a plaque where the original Lincoln Oak once stood, in the Southeast corner of the grounds. Old World charm surrounds the second floor guest quarters. The large rooms have been tastefully decorated with antique & period furniture for your comfort & enjoyment.

Julia Vrooman Suite: Julia's charm & grace are evident in this beautiful room. An antique Cheval mirror, hand-carved double bed & a stunning navy & gold Oriental rug adorns this sunny retreat. The attached private bath features a modern shower.

Carl Vrooman Suite: This elegant bedroom has an adjoining sitting room where Carl & Julia would often enjoy afternoon tea. This adjacent room features a large window seat overlooking the Lincoln Oak Memorial, as well as a private bath with a slipper tub.
