Kings Courtyard Inn

Charleston, South Carolina.

Located in the heart of the Historic District and surrounded by countless interesting boutiques and antique shops, it is a mere stroll from the famous harbor, historic homes and attractions.

Bed and Breakfast Description

Charleston, South Carolina bed and breakfast: Kings Courtyard Inn

Designed by Francis D. Lee in the Greek revival style and incorporating unusual Egyptian detailing, 198 King Street opened in 1853. Its street level arcades boasted some of the city’s most fashionable shops, while its tradition of hospitality began on the upper floors where a popular inn catered to plantation owners, shipping magnates and merchant guests.

Restored with historic and architectural accuracy, each of the inn’s rooms has fine 18th century reproduction furnishings and Oriental rugs. Some offer canopied beds, others feature fireplaces, and many provide views of one of the two tranquil courtyards or the rear garden and spa. Honored as a charter member of National Trust Historic Hotels of America, Kings Courtyard Inn is a casual, comfortable, distinctive retreat.

Enjoy: an afternoon welcome with wine and sherry, evening wine tasting, nightly turndown service with chocolates, a complimentary breakfast of freshly baked pastries and morning newspaper serviced in your room, hairdryer, iron and board available, cable television and mini refrigerators in each room, concierge services, off-street parking.

Area Attractions and Activities:

Recreation in Charleston focuses around water. The City operates a municipal golf course and 40 tennis courts. The numerous parks and scenic, tree-lined streets provide a beautiful backdrop for walking, jogging and cycling.

The annual Cooper River Bridge Run, attracting over 25,000 participants, is one of the most popular road races in the Southeast. The City's Waterfront Park is a popular destination for residents and visitors alike. Hosts of private and County facilities round out the City's extensive inventory of recreational facilities.

Each spring, Charleston hosts Spoleto Festival U.S.A., the most comprehensive arts festival in the country. The world's finest dancers, musicians and actors take to the stage in a spirited homage to the arts.
