![]() The house was originally built in 1897 as the private residence of Mr. Ewing Buchan, President of The Hamilton Bank and a prominent citizen of early Vancouver. In 1909, Mr. Buchan wrote one of the most well known English versions of our National Anthem in this award-winning heritage home. The first public singing of "O Canada" took place at a luncheon meeting of the Canadian Club in Vancouver on February 9, 1910. 'O Canada' House is large enough to ensure maximum privacy and comfort in your suite, although we encourage you to enjoy the spacious main floor with its large entry hall and open staircase, an inviting front parlor with fireplace, and an elegant dining room with fireplace and individual breakfast tables. Of course, you may wish to sit out on the wrap-around porch or enjoy the picturesque English garden. Friendly and knowledgeable staff is always available to assist guests in selecting a delicious dinner from the menus of the city’s most respected restaurants, or to help with sightseeing ideas. These might include an evening stroll in our quiet residential neighborhood, the nearby colorful exuberance of famous Robson Street’s shops and restaurants, or through Stanley Park – a 1000-acre natural forest bordered on three sides by the Pacific Ocean. Should you choose to bring your vehicle, 'O Canada' House offers on-site parking. Luggage storage is also complimentary.
