![]() Kelly Place is an outdoor educational center, retreat center and destination bed & breakfast, located in the heart of the Four Corners, just 10 miles west of Cortez, Colorado in red-rock McElmo Canyon. In the 1960's, George and Sue Kelly, horticulturists from the Denver area, built the current lodge as their home and created an "oasis on the edge of the desert," with orchards, gardens, and courtyards at the base of Sleeping Ute Mountain, and among ancient Indian ruins. Kelly Place is for outdoor activities! The mild climate (usually) allows plenty of time to explore the natural beauty of the high desert oasis and the prehistoric puebloan ("cliff-dweller") ruins found on the 40-acre property--and beyond into the Canyons of the Ancients National Monument. A full, hot breakfast is served in the main lodge where you might strike up a conversation with one of our staff archaeologists or experts on primitive pottery or rock art. Kelly Place hosts groups, weddings, retreats, and hands-on activities may be arranged for your group of 8-40. This is truly a unique B&B! Lodge rooms are comfortably furnished and suitable for up to 6. Cabins range from rustic to deluxe. The 2-bedroom modular suite is also beautifully decorated and spacious. Some cooking facilities are in all cabins with a full kitchen in the suite. Your hosts, Jerene Waite and Marc Yaxley, are committed to sharing this special place and providing a unique educational adventure for all their guests Area Attractions and Activities: Mesa Verde National Park (20 miles), Ute Mountain Tribal Park, Four Corners National Monument, Hovenweep National Monument, Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, Anasazi Heritage Center and Canyons of the Ancients National Monument.
