Welcome to The Rock Garden, a State College Bed & Breakfast located at the base of Mt. Nittany just minutes from the Penn State campus. Situated between the village of Lemont and Historic Boalsburg, we offer relaxation in a beautiful country setting.

Bed and Breakfast Accommodations

Our farmhouse style home sits on 17 acres in the village of Oak Hall and provides all the amenities of today's busy world yet is refreshingly different from the typical motel and hotel.

Nestled between Mt. Nittany and Tussey Mountain, we have wonderful views from every window. Construction of our B&B was finished in 2005 with safety features that sit quietly in the background and allow the comfort of complete relaxation. All five guestrooms have a private bath and are unique in their decor and style. Every guest can be accommodated with queen size beds in four of our rooms and two twin beds in our first floor fully ADA compliant room. Each guestroom's name speaks for itself. The Mt. Nittany and Garden Overlook Rooms offer gorgeous views of Mt. Nittany, the courtyard and our gardens. The Tussey Mountain ridge, as well as our rock garden and nursery, can be enjoyed from the Tussey and Boalsburg Rooms.

Create your own gardens with The Rock Garden, a perennial plant nursery, located onsite. A variety of plants are available including plants for rock gardens, alpine troughs, shade gardens and the perennial border. With Penn State nearby, college activities and the legendary Beaver Stadium are all just a short drive away. All tastes can be satisfied with numerous walking trails, the renowned fly-fishing streams of Penns Creek, Spring Creek, Elk Creek and Spruce Creek, and both small and large game hunting.

Area Attractions and Activities:

Centre County has earned its name Happy Valley as the area is filled with activities for everyone. Beaver Stadium and the Bryce Jordan Center provide venues for athletic events and performances. Shopping, dining and entertainment can be found in downtown State College and nearby villages and towns. Fishing, biking, walking, and hiking are among the outdoor activities available.


Our Bed and Breakfast is located in Oak Hall, which sits at the base of Mt. Nittany and is midway between the villages of Boalsburg and Lemont.

Historic Boalsburg, birthplace of Memorial Day, is only two miles from us. Enjoy strolling Main Street and visiting the quaint shops on the Diamond. Dine at Duffy's Tavern, a popular Boalsburg eating establishment, or enjoy Kelly's Steak and Seafood. Visit the Boal Mansion Museum and Columbus Chapel, the Boalsburg Heritage Museum, or spend some time at the Pennsylvania Military Museum 28th Division Shrine.

Mt. Nittany Room: A view of Mt. Nittany greets you as you step into the Mt. Nittany Room. Relax on the queen size Shaker style four-poster bed or at the personalized table for two in the nook.

Tussey Room: The Tussey Mountain Ridge and the morning sun join to make the Tussey Room bright and cheerful. The Garden Gate bed adorned with a red toile comforter coordinates with a sitting chair to rest and relax in.

Reservation Notes:

If a cancellation occurs more than 14 days before the reservation date there will be a $20 processing fee per room that will be billed to your credit card. If the the cancellation occurs within 14 days or less of the reservation date one half of your balance due at check in will be charged to your credit card.
