Bed and Breakfast Description

Walk through the stately front doors of Portobello Inn, and you step back to a slower paced and quieter time. Its an old fashioned getaway to the country, but our amenities are for the 21st Century traveler.

There are plenty of places to explore at the Inn. Stretch out and read, take long walks, cat-nap or just sit back on the front porch. Relax and enjoy the fresh country air and let the world go by. We will also be happy to help direct you to the many area attractions and events scheduled in Central New York throughout the year.

We have 5 comfortable and airy rooms, each with private bathrooms, plush robes, A/C and ceiling fans, cable TV with HBO and Wireless Internet access. Then, after your day’s explorations and/or relaxation, you’ll experience a wonderful night’s sleep on our Therapedic Mattresses, especially made for Portobello Inn.

In the morning, wake-up to the breakfast smells of our country kitchen. Fresh ground and brewed coffees, assorted teas and mouth watering homebaked goods are just waiting for you to try. Start your day off in our comfortable dining room or enjoy a relaxing summer breakfast on the veranda. Savor the varied weekly menu, which includes seasonal fruits and special entrees, prepared especially for you by our Innkeeper, Roland.

Area Attractions and Activities:

Portobello Inn is located close to many area Central New York attractions. The Adirondack Mountains and the Lake Placid/Olympic venue are to our north. This area is noted for its winter activities. There are day trips to and from Utica's Union Station on the Adirondack Scenic Railway. Visit scenic Old Forge, the Adirondack Museum at Blue Mountain Lake or enjoy the Enchanted Forest and Water Safari.

South 30 minutes is the Village of Cooperstown and the Baseball Hall of Fame. Visit Doubleday Field, NY State Historical Museum, Glimmerglass Opera and museums.

East of us, hike, bike, boat and fish along the Erie Canal and Mohawk River. Dig for Herkimer Diamonds, visit antique centers, museums, forts and shrines.

West 18 miles is the greater Utica area. Visit museums, the Stanley Performing Arts Center, the Utica Zoo, F.X. Matt Brewing Co., Vernon Downs Race Track, Turning Stone Casino, Oneida Silversmiths and many historic attractions and seasonal activities.
