Welcome to the Aurora Leigh Bed & Breakfast, a 27-room Queen Anne Victorian mansion in historic Lock Haven, gateway to the Pennsylvania Wilds. We are 3½ hours away from Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, and New York City and only minutes from the scenic beauty.

Bed and Breakfast Description

Enjoy the Old World charm of an 1887 retreat featuring a grand hall and open foyer, 10½ foot ceilings, six fireplaces, cozy nooks and crannies where you can curl up with a good book, original parquet wood floors, original hand-carved wainscoting and crown molding, exquisitely carved antique furniture, guest rooms containing the perfect blend of Victorian elegance and modern convenience (each with private bath, cable TV, and wireless Internet), an elegant 3-course breakfast prepared for you each morning by our chef, and High Tea in the afternoon.

The Aurora Leigh Bed & Breakfast was named for three reasons. First, Aurora means dawn; we thought it was appropriate not only because we are a bed & breakfast, but because the parquet design in the foyer floor has a sunburst. Second, Leigh is Tracy's middle name. And third, the name Aurora Leigh is the title of an epic poem by Elizabeth Barrett Browning, the Victorian-age woman who gave voice to the aspirations of a generation of English women. Browning is perhaps best known for her work The Portuguese Sonnets. However, in Aurora Leigh she wrote a ground-breaking verse novel about a Victorian woman/artist named Aurora. The name of Browning's poem sealed the deal because we felt the spirit of the Victorian age captured in Browning's book--especially in her portrayal of Aurora--reflected the spirit we wanted to capture throughout our bed and breakfast.

The Piper Aviation Museum exhibits aircraft and aircraft equipment, documents, photographs, and memorabilia related to Piper Aircraft. Its holdings of aircraft and aircraft equipment, its ever-expanding archives collection of corporate and family records, flight journals and magazines, photographs, and memorabilia, are all available for public display and becoming truly impressive.

The Millbrook Playhouse is a unique barn theatre, having operated as a professional summer stock theatre since 1963. The theatrical companies hired each summer continue to possess highly diverse skills and techniques and provide varied entertainment.

Most Popular Rooms:

The Pemberley Suite: Our most lavishly decorated room pays tribute to the world of Jane Austen and her novel Pride and Prejudice. It is our honeymoon suite, complete with a private balcony porch and a private bath with Venetian tile.

The Mandalay Room: Rudyard Kipling wrote numerous stories about his travels in the orient and so the Mandalay Room is named in his honor. Many of the pieces were purchased locally, including the large silk screen hanging on the wall.

Reservation Notes:

If you need to cancel your reservation, we will refund your deposit minus a $20 bank process fee up until 48 hours before your Aurora Leigh Bed & Breakfast is to begin. If you need to cancel within 48 hours, we will be able to refund 50% of your deposit, unless we are able to re-book your room, in which case we will refund your deposit minus the $20 fee.
