![]() Built in 1804, the Wakefield Inn is located in the quiet, historic village of Wakefield Corner. The inn is the ideal base to explore and enjoy the spectacular beauty and tranquility of an unspoiled bit of God's country. The building has many unique features, the most spectacular of which is the "FLYING" spiral staircase which gracefully spirals up to the third floor with no center pole support. On the first floor there is a 3-sided fireplace that includes a beehive oven. The Inn also has a wrap around front porch, which is a favorite place to sit and relax in the cool, crisp mountain air. The Wakefield Inn is an ideal location to host a private function, such as Wedding Receptions, Bridal Showers and Anniversary Parties. Please call to arrange a tour and to discuss your next event. Enjoy the beautiful White Mountains, the Lakes Region and not far away, the seacoast of Maine. Or relax and enjoy the immediate area visiting nearby museums, gift and antique shops, driving along scenic by-ways or enjoying some of the great outdoor sports activities. Area Attractions and Activities: Like so many place names in New England, Lake Winnipesaukee is an Indian name, and it’s common meaning is “smile of the great spirit.” Native people had been living on the lake for 10,000 years before any settlers came. Lake Winnipesaukee is the largest lake in New Hampshire and one of the deepest. It's one of many in the beautiful Lakes region of New Hampshire. At 72 square miles and a shoreline full of inlets, at first glance it looks less like a big lake and, more like a bunch of islands. But nestled in among these inlets are; quaint towns, homely coffee shops, fine restaurants, and zillions of things to do year 'round! Plenty of hiking trails, bike rides, relaxing beaches, scenic drives, as well as boating, canoeing, fishing, and more. Lake Winnipesaukee, and Winnisquam Lake, and its surrounding towns, can take you a month of Sundays to fully explore and appreciate, like Weirs Beach, Meredith, and Center Harbor, Alton Bay, Wolfeboro, and Moultonboro. Services: Common Room with Fireplace, Bottled Water, Homemade Cookies and Fresh Fruit, library Most Popular Rooms: The Sanborn Room: On the second floor. Wrought Iron Canopy Bed with Curtains, down comforter and quilt provide a cozy nights sleep. Loveseat, two chairs and bistro table, which can accommodate a candlelit dinner for two upon request.
