Inn by the Mill
St. Johnsville, New York.
Welcome to Inn by the Mill, a romantic upscale B&B, located in upstate-central New York! An historical 1835 stone grist mill, miller's home, flower and water gardens, elegant rooms and private baths. Complimentary ice cream and desserts 24/7.
Bed and Breakfast Description

A uniquely upscale, private, waterside B&B. Our Historical 1835 Stone Grist Mill was once part of the Underground Railroad. The abundant grounds are set in a tranquil park-like setting with hot tub spas overlooking cascading waterfalls and extensive gardens. The 1894 Mill Guest House, HillSide, 1888 Hog’n Haus and CliffSide Guest Cottages overlook private waterfalls and the gorge. Views from the Cottages show the deer feeding in the woods across the waterfall gorge.
The Inn features a super-deluxe continental breakfast, fully stocked kitchens, private baths and game parlors. Listen to historical storytelling in museum-like Emporium & Ice Cream Billiard Parlor, while enjoying complimentary gourmet desserts. Relax in a streamside hammock, covered swing or meditate in the Zen Garden.
The Underground Railroad: The Grist Mill has three secret rooms below the basement floor; two are next to the water turbine. The rooms were used as waiting rooms. Each night when it was dark, the water to the thirty-foot waterwheel was shut off. With the water off, the water tunnel was a convenient escape route.
There were many Mills along this Timmerman Creek. This Stone Grist Mill supplied recycled water through the tunnel to another Wood Constructed Lumber Mill further downstream. The tunnel is three-foot square and about 1,000 feet long. It is constructed of large square boulders on the top and sides that sit on the bedrock.
