Bed and Breakfast Description

The Halsey House, a wonderful Federal/Greek style home, was built in 1829 and is listed on the National Historic Register.

All guestrooms have marvelous pillowtop mattresses (queen or king), feather pillows and warm bathrobes. There are room-darkening shades for that lazy afternoon nap if you find you have the time or inclination, and individual room-controlled air conditioners. Your amenities also include a private modern bathroom, some with two-person whirlpool tubs, TVs with DVD players and high speed wireless Internet access. A full gourmet breakfast is served each morning.

The first floor has a game room/library stocked with movies, books and games for your use. The parlor features a black marble fireplace with a comfy couch and ottoman, perfect for putting your feet up and enjoying that bottle of wine you found at one of our local wineries. Or settle into the cozy nook and play with our one-of-a-kind chess set.

The adjacent formal dining room comes alive in the morning with the sights and smells of fresh baked breakfast, mugs of your favorite breakfast beverage and lively conversation.

The second floor is where our the guestrooms are located, with the exception of Indulgence. Upstairs there is a sunny seating area at the end of the hall with a refrigerator for your use. Owner's quarters and aviary are separate from the guests' in the rear of the house, beginning with the kitchen.

Area Attractions and Activities:

A two-mile hike or drive brings you to Taughannock Falls, the highest waterfall east of the Rockies. Two more miles east and you are standing on the shore of Cayuga Lake. Stretching 40 miles and 435 feet deep, it is the largest of the Finger Lakes.

The many activities on the lake include boating, skiing, fishing, swimming, sailing and jet skiing. Land activities include the Cayuga Wine Trail, bicycle tours, hiking trails, three nearby golf courses and 12 parks within a 20-mile radius. Due to the abundance of natural areas most remain uncrowded even on the busiest of holiday weekends.

Ithaca, home to Cornell University and Ithaca College, is twelve minutes south. There you will find numerous restaurants, shops, parks, waterfalls, trails, museums, and the Hangar Theatre. Be sure to follow the link to check for current events. Watkins Glen and the Corning Glass Works are nearby.

Margaret's Retreat: A sunny room decorated in rich, dark colors with a queen walnut canopy bed, sitting area and writing desk. The private spacious bath has a two-person Jacuzzi tub/shower. This is romance at it's finest.

Indulgence: Our finest with a king-sized mahogany bed, gas marble fireplace with remote, writing desk, comfy chairs, a 40" HDTV w/Dvd, Bose Wave CD player and WIFI. The spacious bathroom has an oversized whirlpool tub for 2 and a large multi-headed shower
