Bed and Breakfast Description

Thompson, Connecticut bed and breakfast: The Cottage House

Elegant luxury with beach house appeal classifies The Cottage House as an ideal setting for vacation accommodations, business overnights, or romantic getaways.

Located in picturesque Thompson, Connecticut, with great access to the Northeast Corner and the surrounding cities of Worcester, Providence, and Hartford, the tranquil ambiance of this six bedroom Inn inspires relaxation and focus in a hassle-free environment.

Our six guest room cottages feature quiet color palettes of creams and whites. Simplicity in color and furnishing is the key to The Cottage House’s success as a refreshing vacation destination.

Built in 1814 by Stephen Tefft, Dr. James Webb, Noadiah Comins, and Hezekiah Olney, the inn began as one of many public houses in the area. After Captain Vernon Stiles purchased it in 1830, it became Stiles Tavern and quickly gained popularity, boasting that “more stage passengers dined there every day than at any other house in New England.” When the temperance movement arose in the mid 1830s, Captain Stiles disposed of his liquor, transforming his tavern into a temperance house.

After, Captain Stiles, several innkeepers owned and managed the inn over the years. Eventually changing from a tavern to a restaurant, the building took on different titles and now, The Cottage House provides a refreshing retreat to travelers from all over who wish to be pampered.
