1873 Architects Inn - George Champlin Mason House

The Architect's Inn-George Champlin Mason House B&B was constructed in 1873 as the palatial, private residence of George C. Mason, the famous Newport architect. This 23-room Victorian mansion offers five graciously appointed guest rooms.

Bed and Breakfast Accommodations

Our home is decorated in period furnishings and each guest room is unique. Three guestrooms are elegant, spacious accommodations, providing period furnishings, queen size bed, private bath, cable TV/VCR, air conditioning, working fireplace and a comfortable seating area.

Two suites offer either a king or queen bed, sitting room, private bath, fireplace, cable TV/VCR and air conditioning. Some can accommodate up to 8 people.

Breakfast can be served by the fire in winter and on the porch overlooking the garden in summer. Most of the food is Organic in season. We also cater to persons with special diets such as Gluten-Free, Lactose-Free, Wheat-Free, Atkins, Vegetarian, Vegan, South Beach, Monkey and Kosher foods. We offer complimentary on-site parking.

Guests can relax in the parlor or the library, each of which has a fire going seasonally. Afternoon refreshments and evening sherry are served. With so much common space and such a comfortable, relaxing atmosphere, our home is ideal for group travel.

The Architect's Inn enjoys the finest location in Newport, sitting proudly in the heart of the island in a peaceful, residential district surrounded by other stately Victorian mansions. It stands just a three block westward stroll to the cobble stone of Thames Street pass the Art Museum and Old Stone Mill; Three blocks easterly passes you by the famous Cliff Walk, stately homes of Newport Society and the beaches of the Atlantic Ocean. Three blocks south of the Inn leads you to the Tennis Hall of Fame, Horse-draw Carriage Rides, and Mansion tours.

Within walking distance are the beach, harborfront, boating, shopping, antiques, museums and fabulous restaurants.

A short drive will take you to golf courses, the wineries, polo and additional attractions.

We are also the only Inn in southern New England providing Murder Mystery Weekends.

Most Popular Rooms:

The Redwood Room features high ceilings with plaster crown moldings,parquet floor w/ cherry trim, Delft tile wood fireplace, couch and lg bath w/ a clawfoot soaking tub & shower. This is our most popular room especially for honeymoons and anniversaries.

The Perry Suite is our largest room boosting a large bedroom w/ rice carved 4 poster bed, gas fireplace, sitting room, bath w/ clawfoot soaking tub and separate 2-person custom shower. Great for family with teenage children or leisurely romantic couples.
