Bed and Breakfast Description

Howard Creek Ranch is alive with rural splendor and sweeping ocean and mountain views. Sixty acres of peace and beauty on the beach near the “Lost Coast,” a sixty mile long wilderness.

The ranch was settled in 1867 as a land grant of thousands of acres. Horses, sheep, pygmy goats and llama graze the pastures. The rustic buildings are constructed from virgin redwood from the ranch forest.

In the middle of wide green lawns sits a large 1871 farmhouse filled with antiques. A 75-foot swinging bridge spans Howard Creek as it flows past the Carriage Barn and cabins to the beach 200 yards away.

Breakfast is a hearty farm meal with fresh juice, soufflés, bacon, sausage, strawberry-banana pancakes, baked apples with granola and whipped cream. The menu changes daily. Coffee is strong and early. Tea is available anytime.

Details: Suites, rooms, cabins, including a beach house with in-deck Jacuzzi and a boathouse next to the creek. Nominated to the National Historic Register. Large, comfortable beds and handmade quilts, private deck/balconies, skylights, fireplaces/wood stoves, hot tubs, sauna, massage, views of the ocean, mountains, or creek. Direct access to a long sandy beach with tide pools at low tide and whale watching during migration.

Go Hiking on our property and the 60 mile long Lost Coast, enjoy beachcombing right here on our adjacent State Park beach - three miles of long sandy beaches, see on-site giant redwoods and visit one of the last remaining nearby drive-through Redwood Trees, taste local Mendocino County wines at Pacific Star Winery (the only winery on the coast- south a few miles from Westport, ride the famous Skunk Train inland through the woods, go shopping in great little boutiques in both Fort Bragg and Mendocino, explore the small village of Westport and step back in time, visit the art galleries and studios in both Fort Bragg and Mendocino, watch for special events _the Music Festival and the Paul Bunyan Day Celebrations. Join us for the Annual Westport Rubber Ducky Contest, real ducks add fun.

The Beachhouse: Separate cabin 200 yards from the breaking waves. Made from rustic redwood milled onsite, kingsized bed with handmade quilt, freestanding wood fireplace, private deck with hot tub. A favorite with honeymooners and couples. Very secluded.

Choose between the skylight in the Sunroom and millions of stars or the Solar Room, the fireplace cozy with redwood or the Boat Cabin, with the creek rushing by or gaze at the ocean waves from the deck of Lucy's Room or the Captain's Room redwood warmth.
