Cinnamon Mornings and Chocolate Dreams
Whether you're hosting a formal get-together or need a quick brunch idea, this book will spark your imagination and your appetite.
The Fan House
Barnard, Vermont.
Guests visibly relax upon entering the 1840 country kitchen. They're home. They sense they will sleep well, enveloped in understated elegance, sensuous comfort and style.
Bed and Breakfast Description

From Bulgari bath amenities to candlelight breakfasts, The Fan House delivers sophisticated simplicity. Heirloom tapestries, original art and toile nudge this historic home from vintage New England to couturier.
Guests enjoy such luxuries as high thread count linens, oversize bath sheets and handcrafted breakfasts. There are three guest suites, each with air conditioning and private bath (2 with queen beds, 1 with king bed, fireplace and over-bed skylight for viewing stars).
The house is surrounded by gardens tending toward "secret," a wildflower meadow, birds, wind, silence and stars. This is truly a peaceful sanctuary for painting, writing, reading, relaxing and loving.

Area Attractions and Activities:
Barnard, VT, where The Fan House is located, is only 10 miles from historic Woodstock, VT, which has long been noted as one of the prettiest towns in America, and also as a birthplace for the ecological/conservation movement in the U.S. Many of the lands in the greater region belong to the Vermont Land Trust, thus preserving the beauty of this world-class landscape.
Winter sports (alpine, downhill) and cross-country skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, skating are just out the door. In summer, the Appalachian and Long Trails beckon, as does Silver Lake (a 3-minute walk from house) for swimming and boating. There is excellent birding (did you see Winged Migration?) in the area, and The Fan House can arrange birding outings.
Woodstock and neighboring towns including Hanover, NH (home of Dartmouth College), offer fine dining, art galleries and boutiques.
Most Popular Rooms:
A craftsman studied the bed in a Tuscan design book. That bed - and his hand-crafted armoire - are centerpieces of The Fireplace Suite. Heirloom needlepoint adorns pillows atop the duvet. A Gobelin tapestry hangs opposite the fireplace.
The living room fireplace is always lit on cool mornings. Sometimes guests breakfast at the table-for-two in the adjacent library, enjoying this special warmth. Perhaps you saw this picture in the April 2003 Travel & Leisure magazine.
