Bed and Breakfast Description

Nestled amid towering firs and pines on the majestic west shore of Lake Tahoe, California, USA, the Rockwood Lodge offers the tranquility of a quiet alpine setting and the charm of "Old Tahoe" architecture.

Built by a Vallejo valley dairyman in the 1930s on the west shore of the nation's second deepest lake, the inn has a huge stone fireplace in the parlor, hand-hewn beams and pine paneling restored to their naturally aged golden color. The generous use of indigenous rock in the walls and fireplace blends into the natural surroundings.

Rockwood Lodge offers a variety of comfortable rooms, tastefully decorated and appointed in a style sure to please your senses. All rooms have queen beds and private baths. European and American antiques are accented with fabrics by Laura Ashley, and together with the large beds, puffy down comforters and pillows give a luxurious, country feel to the inn. After your first stay in the comfort of the inn close by the shores of Lake Tahoe, you will agree with Mark Twain that this is the "masterpiece of the universe."

Secret Harbor: Handpainted, four poster, canopy Russian Wedding bed replica. Room looks out to the lake with built-in writing desk & walk-in closet. Private bath has Roman tile steeping tub for 2 with double showers. Champagne & breakfast served in room.

Zephyr Cove Room: Your tree house like setting is quiet & secluded. Sitting area. An antique rocker & a book from the old cobblers' bench will enable you to relax in your tree house, the feather bed & down comforter should do the trick as well.
