The Tidewater is within walking distance of the village shops and close to three Long Island Sound beaches. Our shoreline area offers many opportunities for relaxing, touring, outdoor adventures, sailing, shopping, and dining.

Outside, guests enjoy relaxing on our charming front porch or in the English garden, with it's park benches and welcoming umbrella table.

Inside, the Inn offers an inviting and elegant atmosphere with all the modern amenities. The beamed sitting room has a large fireplace surrounded by comfortable furniture mostly from the 1940's. At the other end of this large room, guests enjoy breakfast in front of a sunny bay window.

The guestrooms are beautifully furnished. All the rooms offer private bathrooms, hair dryers, cable television, air conditioning, telephone with voice messaging system and wireless Internet access for your personal computer. Selected rooms offer canopy bed, fireplace, or Jacuzzi.

Guests enjoy relaxing on Long Island Sound beaches, walking or birdwatching in nearby state parks (Hammonassset, Gillette's Castle, Chatfield Hollow), taking a scenic cruise on the CT River, a sunset sail or lighthouse cruise on Long Island Sound, renting a canoe or kayak, touring Yale University and it's art museums, visiting Chamard Vineyards, or riding the Essex Steam Train.

Guests also enjoy exploring the area's many antique and specialty shops, shopping at the Clinton & Westbrook designer outlets, seeing a musical at the Goodspeed Opera House, taking a self guided tour of the town green or the outdoor sculpture museum. Charming historic villages of Madison, Guilford, Essex, and Chester are all nearby and are great fun to explore.

In winter, attend the Eagle Festival in February or go on an eagle watch tour or cruise Jan - March. In summer, enjoy many local antique and craft fairs, midweek evening outdoor concerts, or plan to attend the jazz festival or handicraft festivals.

Most Popular Rooms:

Madison Room: A beautiful room on the 2nd floor. Furnished with an Oriental flair, it offers floral wallpaper, sitting area with love seat and wingbacked chair, cable TV, in-room refrigerator, large bathroom, and a king canopy bed.

The Cottage: A romantic hideaway. A separate carriage house with king bed, sitting room, Jacuzzi for two, and private patio. Decorated with floral wallpaper and antiques, it also offers TV with VCR, and in-room refrigerator.
