Visitors arrive year-round to experience five-star dining or make themselves at home in one of four elegant guest rooms with private baths. The McCully House features European and American antiques, Oriental rugs and fine art. Outdoors, the garden displays colorful flowers and 85 different varieties of award-winning roses.
One of six original dwellings situated in the heart of downtown, the stately mansion once housed a private school and is today listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. With all the niceties of the classic revival period The McCully House certainly exemplifies the architectural standards. Surely quality was the object for original owner Dr. John W. McCully. He was one of the first arrivals – and the first doctor – to Jacksonville following the discovery of gold, and was later elected its Justice of the Peace.
