Bed and Breakfast Description

Salida, Colorado had its beginning as a railroad town. At the turn of the century the Denver and Rio Grande was at the heart of commerce with a narrow-gauge crossing high mountain regions providing services to small mining communities and a standard-guage running beside the beautiful Arkansas River through the Royal Gorge. Salida was a division point for the railroad, had a large roundhouse to repair locomotives, a hospital for railroad employees, and provided goods and services for those living and passing through this wondrous mountain town.

Ah but things have changed and today Salida is known for it's variety of summer and winter recreational activities as well as gorgeous mountain ranges and beautiful weather. In the August 2004 issue of Outside Magazine, Salida Colorado was included on their list of "20 Dream Towns". What a place to live, what a place to visit, what a place to vacation!

Located in Salida's oldest residential district this sweet l908 duplex offers two ideal accommodations. Whether you travel as a couple, family or small group of friends, these cottages offer privacy, charm, comfort, convenience and versatility. This building has experienced little change to take away from it's integrity. In the former parlors, now serving as second bedrooms, are cast iron stoves dated l890 surrounded with the original tile and fireplace mantels. Each cottage has pocket doors, large footed bathtubs with showers, and wall-hung sinks.

The Arkansas River is just 1 ˝ blocks from the cottages’ front doors and close by are beautiful 14,000 foot peaks of the Rocky Mountains. Numerous outdoor activities await your participation. River rafting trips are just a few minutes away, as are hiking and biking trails. For those who are into skiing or snowboarding, Monarch Ski Area is just 18 miles west of Salida.
