Bed and Breakfast Description

Southwest Harbor, Maine bed and breakfast: The Birches B&B

Your Hosts Dick and Rocky will welcome you to one of their three lovely guest rooms in The Birches B&B house, and you will be served a wonderful breakfast, great conversation, and an informative discussion about the Island's tourist spots. In the morning, choose from an assortment of drinks, fruit, cereals and indulge in the entree of the day.

Along with The Birches Bed and Breakfast is "The Old House" located a few hundred feet away which is available for weekly rentals, the original (1893) summer cottage on a 6-acre family homestead.

The Old House has a private drive and parking area. Pets allowed if well trained. 5 bedrooms, 2 baths. Living room with cathedral ceiling and inglenook fireplace. Dining room, large front porch overlooking the islands. Large kitchen with two pantries. Sundeck. Complete inventory of bedding, towels, tableware, crockery, utensils, pots and pans. Video film and game player, no TV. Electric baseboard heat in all rooms.

The Old House is over 110 years old, and The Birches was built as a summer cottage in 1916 by Martha Brown Fink and was bought by the Homers in 1950. Extensive renovations in 1974 have produced a year-round house reminicent of Maine at its best.
