Castleton, Vermont bed and breakfast: Applewood Manor B&B

Welcome to Applewood Manor Bed & Breakfast in the picturesque and unspoilt village of Castleton, Vermont. The local area presents spectacular scenery and a wealth of outdoor activities including hiking, skiing, fishing, and snowmobiling. Applewood Manor B&B is within walking distance of Castleton State College and is convenient to many other Vermont colleges, the Lenair Healing Center and places of interest.

Applewood Manor is one of the three oldest houses remaining from colonial Castleton Vermont. Its captivating beauty, unique workmanship and history have been lovingly preserved through careful renovations so that it operates today as a beautiful historic bed and breakfast, with the trademarks of a quintessential Vermont inn. Applewood Manor is the perfect place to stay for exploring South Central Vermont and for New England getaways.

The original house was built by Noah Hoyt, younger brother of Nehemiah Hoyt (Hoit) one of the first settlers who came to Castleton as a single man in 1771. As a Green Mountain Boy, Nehemiah Hoyt assisted in the capture of Fort Ticonderoga; he was the third man to enter, following on the heels of Colonel Ethan Allen.

The house remained in the Hoyt family until the mid-20th century, with the widow of John Hoyt, great grandson of the original builder, being the last member of the Hoyt family to live in the house. Since then, only two other families have owned the house before Ralph and Nancy purchased it in 2004.
