*The "Spencer Season" is from the first of September to the last Friday in June. The "Chautauqua Season" is from the last Saturday in June to the last Saturday in August of each year. During the Chautauqua Season weekly stays are desirable and recommended due to the Chautauqua Institution weekly programming.

The Spencer Hotel offers guests the modern amenities and conveniences of the 21st century in a unique historical setting, and year-round visitors find even more hospitality and service.

Guest rooms and suites were thoughtfully decorated by local artists to honor and encapture the lives and works of famous authors. Each room offers a select library of thoughtfully-chosen books, and musical selections are available that further convey the tone of each writer's life and times. One-of-a-kind murals grace many walls, floors and ceilings. Guests also find faux finishes and yards of English lace in addition to custom-made draperies, dust ruffles and lampshades.

The parlor and dining room have Strauss crystal, Oriental carpets and beautiful Victorian antiques. An elevator services all four floors. Steamboat Gothic porches grace the front of the hotel, and are appointed with Victorian sofas, chairs and rockers that overlook the famous Chautauqua grounds.

Chautauqua features a 36 hole golf course and there are 5 other golf courses in the area. Tennis, biking, hiking, horseback riding, swimming and boating are some of the many activities within a short distance.

Summer blooms with Chautauqua Institution programs in session. The area is noted for its environmental awareness and features hiking and biking trails along former railroad right-aways. Go rock climbing at Panama Rocks. A health club on the grounds of Chautauqua offers fitness equipment for a full workout including the short jog to and from its location.

Autumn colors accompany the area's recreational possibilities. Enjoy trips on the Chautauqua Belle and Summer Wind as you tour the lake. Fall festivals, wineries, and antiquing also enhance your stay.

Winter ushers in many activities including horse-drawn sleigh rides that go right past The Spencer. Cross-country skiing, sledding, tubing and downhill ski areas are nearby. Take advantage of local ice fishing as well.

Guests are taken in by the gorgeous tropical green palms in the Agatha Christie Suite, better known as The Spencer's Honeymoon suite. The two person Jacuzzi adds romance for a couples getaway. Room also boasts a kitchenette and bathroom.

Our classical Charles Dickens apartment is a favorite with its crown molding, variety of antiques, and handsome handmade Italian tile. Awaken every morning to the magical experience of our garden's water fountain and the enchanting park across the street.
