Bed and Breakfast Description

The high-ceilinged guest and common rooms at Winterham Plantation combine classic antique furnishings and paintings, with 21st century conveniences. Built in the Jeffersonian tradition, each 16' x 20' bedroom has a lovely poster or canopy bed (most are queen sized, all with luxury linens) with views of the beautiful surrounding countryside (lake, woods, pastures).

The four bedrooms in the upper storey all have remoted controlled, glass-enclosed, vented fireplaces for your safety, convenience and pleasure.

There are two single rooms: 1) The Princess Amelia Room, daughter of King George II, for whom Amelia County was named. It is furnished mostly to the period, and decorated with 18th century French costume prints. Pedestal sink, spacious shower and hidden cable TV. 2)The New Market Cadet Room, named after 17 yr. old family member, Thomas Garland Jefferson, a VMI icon who died in that famous Civil War battle. (Winterham also served as a Confederate hospital at the end of the war.) It is decorated with military costume prints. Pedestal sink, spacious shower and hidden cable TV

There are also two suites: 1) A premier, lake view
two room luxury suite with elegant furnishings and separate sitting room, hidden cable TV. Ultramasseur tub with multiple air jets, double pedestal sinks, bidet, twin shower/steam room. 2) The family friendly Booker Suite in the lower Garden Terrace level: 2 bedrooms, sitting room, kitchenette/laundry, bath with tub, private veranda.

Area Attractions and Activities:

Winterham Plantation proudly houses the Hadfield Fine Arts and Antiques retail collection, one of the best in the area: fine prints, oil paintings, photographs, and watercolors – and it adorns the walls of Winterham Plantation.

We lie at the epicenter of General Lee's retreat route from Petersburg to Appomattox. Within a 45-60 minute radius, you may see the major civil war sites in Richmond, Petersburg, Appomattox and Amelia). The last major battle of the Civil War was fought nearby, at Sailor's Creek in Amelia.

Other activities include: Moorefield Gem Mine, golfing, antiquing, massages, manicures/ pedicures, bicycling, birdwatching, stargazing, horse riding lessons, go-cart racing, bluegrass and country music, Richmond Metro Zoo, swimming, hunting, fishing, Greenfront Furniture Outlet, Hampden-Sydney College, Longwood University--all in Farmville, 30 minutes away.

Garden Terrace Suite: Family-friendly suite w/2 private bedrooms, living/dining rm, kitchenette, laundry, private bath w/tub/shower, large shaded Garden Terrace veranda w/comfortable & graceful wrought iron furniture. Private entrances.
