Bed and Breakfast Accommodations

Astoria, Oregon bed and breakfast: Grandview B&B

While tall ships yet plied the Columbia River and salmon runs were plentiful, Eben Tallant and his brother, Nathan Tallant, came to Astoria to build a salmon packing cannery much larger than the cannery in Eagle Cliff, Washington had been, before it burned down in a horrible fire.
Andrew Ferguson designed the Eben Tallant family residence at 682 Arch street in the Richardson Shingle style. Features of the house are: a bullet turret, inset balconies, open staircase, and beautiful bay windows.

Our Northwest tower, now capped with an open balcony, makes one feel as a captain on the prow of a ship as the house steers toward the Columbia River mouth. Perhaps this feeling is not accidental. Eben Tallant was, in fact, the first officer on the Clipper, "Golden State", and held the same position on the passenger ship, "John Bright" plying the China Sea, between Shanghai and Hong Kong.

Divided into eight apartments for over forty years, the Tallant home is now owned by the Maxwells and is known as Grandview Bed & Breakfast.

Complete breakfast is complimentary and consists of coffee choices, several varieties of teas and hot cocoa, milk, fruit juices, a full fruit bowl, hot out of the oven muffins, and fresh smoked lox served with toasty bagels and cold cream cheese.

All rooms are light and cheerful. (No smoking or intoxicants here!) Most rooms have hardwood floors, with breathtaking views of the Columbia River and Astoria Column.
