While in the area guests can bike along the Erie Canal on the Mohawk-Hudson Bikeway, stroll the Rose Garden in Central Park, attend a stage show at Proctor's Theater or visit the Historic Districts. Schenectady was settled on the banks of the Mohawk River and many of the early colonial structures remain today, in the Stockade Historic District.
During the city's industrial growth, a planned community was develped by the GE Company and the neighborhood is a designated historic site, known as the GE Realty Plot. A walking tour of either of these neighborhoods offers the visitor a step back in time.
