Bed and Breakfast Description

Bowling Green, Virginia bed and breakfast: ColumnWood B&B

Most of the interior doors have transom windows overhead. Four of the six fireplaces still bear their original tiles and coal grate and several have decorative columns. These columns, along with the columns on both the front and back porches, and our property's huge sycamores; some of which are thought to have been planted before the Civil War inspired us to choose the name "ColumnWood."

Members of the Broaddus family built ColumnWood between 1910 and 1914. Originally, the home was meant to be one large house, but sometime in early construction the family decided to turn the structure into a duplex for Katherine (Broaddus) Burt and her brother, Dr. John Broaddus. It was the first duplex in Bowling Green and has been referred to simply as the "Duplex" for decades.

Your stay at ColumnWood wouldn’t be complete without our delicious home-cooked breakfast with fresh fruit, sweet bread or muffins, juice, coffee or tea and a hot main dish served by your hosts. The main dish varies daily and includes such delectables as French Toast, Omelets or Eggs Benedict.

With advanced notice and for an additional charge, we can provide a light lunch and an elegant dinner.

All meals are served on Depression-era glass or china in our classic wainscoted dining room. Please notify us of any dietary requirements we should consider in preparing your meals.

We are glad to accommodate small dogs (25 pounds or less) who enjoy a stay with their owners.
