Bed and Breakfast Description

Set in the historic southern Vermont village of Dorset, our inn is far enough away that you feel you’ve escaped, yet near enough that getting here isn’t an ordeal.

With just three guestrooms, Squire House is never crowded, complicated or commercial. The guestrooms are spacious, with wide, sunny windows and antique furniture.

Full, three-course breakfasts are presented in our paneled dining room, with English china, family silver and fine linen. A Sampling: Creme Brulee French Toast, Vegetarian Frittatas, Berry-Bread Pudding, Fabulous Buttermilk Pancakes, Squire House "Bump Cake", Omelette du Jour, Squire House Homemade Granola and Atkins Diet breakfasts.

Fishing – The famous Battenkill and Mettowee Rivers flow nearby, with legendary trout fishing available.

Hiking the Green Mountains nature walks and natural history – Merck Forest and Farmland Preserve is six minutes from our doorstep. A full schedule of educational outdoor events is designed to entertain and inform adults and children.

Hiking, jogging, bicycling, horseback riding and backroad touring - we can recommend adventures to suit your ambitions.

Golf - Six golf courses in the area will test your accuracy and distance.

Skiing – Bromley’s sunny slopes are within 20 minutes of our doorstep, and Stratton is just a few miles farther. Excellent cross-country skiing trails are nearby. Both resorts offer summertime activites as well.

Hunting and target shooting – A private shooting preserve is within 15 minutes drive.

Gourmet Restaurants - You'll find a superb choice of dining establishments in the area.

Most Popular Rooms:

Elisabeth Willcox Suite: Has a large private sitting room with antique Oriental rugs, woodburning fireplace and LCD TV. The bedroom features a queen size tiger-maple canopy bed, velvet draperies, Victorian parlor chairs, and a 19th century pine bureau.

The Alice Wolcott Room: Has a queen size four poster bed, woodburning fireplace, 18th century Chippendale mirror, and European prints and watercolors.
