Elegant 1824 mansion with nine large romantic rooms, all with fireplaces, private baths and gourmet candlelight breakfasts.

Step back in time as you enter this gracious and comfortable 1824 home surrounded by ancient copper beach trees and tall, stately pines. The house has high ceilings, large windows and French doors that open out to comfortable, airy porches. Federal House Inn has common areas that are warm and inviting, beckoning you to enjoy complimentary hors d'oeuvres while you relax in the comfortable living room or library area.

Our guestrooms feature queen four-poster beds, antique furnishings, private bathrooms and air-conditioning. All rooms have fireplaces. Visit our Guest Pantry to make a late-night cup of coffee or tea and enjoy fresh baked cookies.

Begin the day with a candlelight breakfast in our elegant dining room, starting with fresh squeezed orange juice followed by a savory homemade muffin or bread and a fresh fruit dish. You’ll then enjoy a memorable entrée such as berry French toast, quiche Lorraine, or fluffy buttermilk pancakes with Vermont maple syrup.

In winter, relax before a crackling fire in our elegant living room. In summer, our landscaped grounds and large, airy porches offer peaceful spots where you can read a good book, talk with a friend, or just relax and let the sounds of nature surround you.

The Thomas Hurlbut Suite: Our largest room featuring wide pine flooring, a beautiful, mantled gas fireplace, a queen 4-poster bed with hand-tied canopy, a sitting area with a fainting couch and Oriental rug and four large windows overlooking the grounds.

The Crabtree Room: Our most romantic room has a corner mantled gas fireplace, queen canopy bed, oriental rug and two comfortable wing chairs for reading or just relaxing. This quiet room has two windows overlooking a large flowering crab tree.
